I picked us 9 pounds of N140 rifle powder and it says it's a
A true multipurpose powder, which can usually be used in place of IMR4320, Reloder 15 or Hodgdon H380. Good choice also for .223 Remington, .22-250 Remington, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, 8x57 IS (8 mm Mauser) and .375 H&H Magnum.

Has anyone actually used this in the 223 with 55 grain bullets? And if so how did it shoot for you. Thanks Tom

Hodgdon burn rate chart seems to back up what vihtavouri says. In the same region as RL15, Varget and 4320.

I have some VV N140 and have an excellent load with 155 TMKs in .308. Haven’t tried it in .223 yet but I’m sure it would work.

Consult your relading manual of choice, find a starting load and whack some up.

I have shot a lot of it.
Unfortunately at the time, I was into my "tactical" phase and I was just shooting sillhouettes and stuff like that. I never actually shot serious groups on paper. But, it worked fine.

FWIW: years ago, I got a phone call from a guy who was a dealer in NFA weapons. He had purchased the inventory of a store that closed. He said, I have no use for this reloading stuff, you can have all of it for $100. So I went over there and checked it out. There was 90 pounds of VV powders and 20,000 primers. I couldn't pay him fast enough. I still have most of the pistol powder but I shot up the rifle powders within a year.

I have used the VihtaVuori N 140 with very good results in my .308 Winchester loads and also 30-06 Springfield loads. I also have used in in .223 Winchester under assorted 75 to 80 grain bullets with good results from 1:7 twist AR barrels. Never had really good results with the lighter bullets in my 1:12 bolt gun. That said I never really experimented much with the lighter bullets.
