Purchased a NAA PUG yesterday and took it to the range in the afternoon. Shoots very well and the sights are great. Fits in the same pocket holster my NAA Minimag 1 5/8 barrel revolver uses.
I saw the announcement for the Pugs, but haven't seen one at the gun shows yet. Did you get regular sights or the one with the tritium. My NAA mini with a tritium front sight turned out to be a bit of a disappointment as the tritium sight was so much higher than a regular sight that you could not ail it like a regular sighted gun.
Got the regular front sight. The NS is the same height as the regular sight. Since the PUG and all NAA minis are designed for short distances, didn't see the need for NS.
I'm thinking about a Pug or a Black Widow of which I would add the Pug type grips. You say you also have a standard minimag. Is your Pug easier to hit with because it has a rear sight? Any other advantages that you have noticed with the Pug type setup over the standard guns? I have a standard 22lr mini but would like to add a Pug or BW because they are mags and both have a rear sight. I love shooting my mini 22lr but I think it would be much more shootable with a rear sight.
I'm trying to decide between the two also. Pug is clearly shorter/smaller and thus easier to carrry. I have not handled either gun in person but it looks to me like the BW has a traditional notch type rear sight and possibly a thinner front sight whereas the Pug appears to have an express type v notch rear sight and a much thicker front sight. If that's the case there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Pug would likely be a little quicker sight picture but the BW might give a more precise sight picture for plinking and longer range. Of course the BW has a longer tube so it will have higher velocity but it's also harder to conceal. I want to be able to hit up close plinking targets and critters but also be able to hit at longer range, say 20 to 100 yards. I can hit a 55gal drum with my 22lr mini out to about 70 yards or better. Does'nt do much but it's fun!
I have a black widow and love it. Thinking of getting a PUG for the wife. I prefer the black widow for the grips as I have big hands (sure either gun can use either grip). My wife likes the smaller gun as it will fit in the front pocket of woman's jeans.
The black widow has the option of coming with adjustable sights, the fixed sights work perfectly for me and are small and thus snag less.
I have had my Pug with Tritium sight for several weeks. Had a concealed carry class on Saturday and let a few of the students and another instructor shoot it. 7 yards and no one had any problem placing all five rounds in a 9" paper plate. The sights were pretty much right on by dotting the I with the front sight.
The grips that come with it make it feel great for a tiny piece and absorbs most of the recoil. I have been carring it in a front pocket in pocket holster and have just about forgot that it was in the pocket.
There is no sense in carring extra rounds for it because that is the biggest disadvantage. After removing the cylinder some of the cases get stuck pretty good in the cylinder and you have to use the cylinder pin to punch out the cases. But realizing it is an up close and personal gun, you need to make the 5 rounds count first time.
It's great for a back up piece and when there is just no other way to conceal a larger weapon.
