I saw how cheap they were in the gander mountain ad and now I'm thinking about getting one. but I was curious as to how safe they are to carry in the holster with the hammer being down on a loaded chamber. thanks for any info you can give me.

No idea about safety while carrying. Cabelas had one in their black friday ad for $99. The ammo for it cost $25 per box. I believe the biggest hindrance will be the cost of ammo once you have it. It is non-typical ammunition so you will most likely have to order it online or find a place in town that stocks oddball ammo and pay more.

No worries. The trigger must be fully rearward for the hammer to drop all the way.

I have mostly Colts and Smiths, but a lot of other brands too.
I like the Nagant design the least of any revolver I can think of.
I have two of them. I shot one of them. I will probably never shoot either of them again, and they are not worth the time it takes to sell them. So they can sit on the junk pile until I die and the wife takes them to the pawn store.

Unique curio

I have owned a nagant pistol for about 7 years. They are a unique design, but i wouldn't carry it fully loaded in a holster as the firing pin is located on the hammer itself. The cylinder moves forward when the trigger is pulled and seals the forcing cone when using original ammo. I have never shot original ammo in mine. I purchased the LEE loading dies that convert 32-20 brass to work. The double action trigger pull is horendous, but the single action pull is alright. The pistol is pretty accurate, not match, but combat accurate. Recoil is minimal. The reloading process is slow. I would hate to have been on the battlefield fighting with only this pistol. Fortunate for me i don't have too!
The 1895 Nagant is a great piece of firearm history and a unique addition to the collection. If you want one buy it and enjoy.

It'd be safe enough, but it's hard to imagine anybody actually carrying one.
The gun is so far down the list in terms of practicality that the idea would most likely only appeal to a sense of either nostalgia or novelty. :)
I have three, the idea of carrying one in a holster never occurred to me.
