I do a lot of things that can be considered questionable at times but there is no way I would use an unknown powder to reload any ammo. Some reloaders are very overcautious but using an unknown powder is truly dangerous. I know powder is hard to come by but eyes and fingers are even harder to come by. Just chalk up the loss and move on.
Mexican match ammo isn't anything new. If you want to be safe pull 10 rounds, find the average charge weight, reduce to 90% and work back up to the average like you would a normal load while watching for pressure signs. Go down to 80% if you want to be even more cautious.
So for a hundred bucks you got 1000 primed empty cases. Not a bad deal nowadays. The rest of the purchase is fertilizer or fire starter and fishing weights.
Except it's A merc brass. I had some 45 acp that some of the rims were visably smaller, small enough to slip off the extractor and cause jam. luckily I had a 625 to shoot the rest out of.
Lets see-------- The only part of an A-MERC round that I would trust completely would be the bullet and you say they are toast.:banghead: The propellant may or may not be the correct amount to produce a safe pressure load. The brass may or may not be safe to shoot without a rupture, I will reuse once fired as it has been "proofed" once already by someone else IF it looks OK. Even the primers are suspect IMHO, are they such low quality that they are corrosive?? I am not THAT adventurous these days I am afraid. Good luck with salvaging your investment.
I had GREAT success using the reclaimed brass, primer, and powder.
Using my own 120gr hard cast gas checks boolit over 12.5gr of the 'mystery powder' I was successfully able to have the gun cycle with reasonable accuracy.
