Hello all. The funnest thing happened today i went to a gun shop to pick up a M1 garand front site (as mine seems to of walked off:scrutiny:) and they had lots of used rifles there. Now i have been keeping an eye out for a marlin 60 with 22inch barrel and full size mag tube and guess what they had. So after being tricked into spend lots of money i now have a marlin 60 blued .22 18rd, scope and a m1 site too. I think the marlin was a great buy about $110-115, almost brand new condition with the heavy barrel on it and gold lettering and trigger:rolleyes:(i could care less about the gold) I know you can find cheaper ones but not the old models with more round capacity and of course i did not have to pay for it to be shipped FFL ect.

I picked up a used scope to mount on the rifle the first scope i have ever bought, but have no idea what brand it is. Does anyone know. It says Japan on the body, and has the name Universal Hialeah, Florida (but cant find them on the net, so i dont know if its the name) with an old sticker that says "passed" right under it. Its 4X32 with a fully coated lense (meaning what) and has a nitrogen filled center reticle.

I'll go with either Hakko, or Weaver. 20 to 30 years old, this should be excellent glass, they allways had strict govt. standards on precision equipment. Which is why to this day, nikon, pentax, and other camera/scope mfgrs to this day still make some great glass, along with their great scopes.

Universal was like Bushnell twenty years ago, a brand that was applied to optics subbed out to contractors. Probably comparable to Swift, Tasco and others, not bottom of the barrel but not top notch. Good value for the money.

Rimfire scopes from this era tended to be 3/4" models, so this is likely set to be free of parallax at 100 yards or so. Should be plenty good for your purposes if that's not a problem.

I think Hialeah is an importer. I had a 30 carbine from those people once.

The scope objective bell looks just like an old Tasco i have. That would be my guess.

My Tasco also has the "passed" sticker on it.

Cool looks like i got a good deal for $25 bucks. There also was a silver Simmons for $25 too but the one i got looks 100% better when looking through the scope. You can tell that there was more effort put into the glass, a lot brighter, clearer. Its beat up a bit has a dent or two but the glass is still 99%.

J Star if any one ever ask about what it is i am saying "oh thats Bob, bob the scope"

I think its a 1inch tube, and it already has mounts but there not the right type for the marlin.

"set to be free of parallax at 100 yards" haha thats so over my head! i got to start looking online how to use a scope the right way and what all the terms mean. Have always used iron sights before this.

Thanks for all the info! great to know its a quality scope
