Nope, I didn't see that one..this was Oregon State Shooting Association. Let's try that one, too, and see who responds.

Hi Barb,

I'm a member of one nice outdoor club in Northern CT where I might be able to drum up some support. There's another (bigger) I'll visit this Saturday that is more Southern CT where I'll mention the idea to some people there. I'll let you know how it goes, Sounds like a great idea to me. If you need someone for the CSA to contact locally let me know and you can give them my name and phone#. I'll be happy to act as the CT liason or help any other way I can. Is the NRA on board with this yet?

:D

Just to clarify in my mind. I'm thinking of it as a kid's day and not necessarily a family day? Will we let mom and dad shoot too if they wanted to?

Hi Barbara,

I just got back from national training and found this. I see your child has graduated but if you have the time 4-H has an excellent shooting sports program for 8 to 18 year olds. The great thing is we take kids shooting every week so I am sure we can move our meeting day to whichever day you designate.

I don't know if anyone is interested but every state is short of 4-H leaders in the shooting sports project areas so if anyone has time and wants to start a club in their area all they need to do is either contact their local county extension agent or go to the national website and find the information to contact the respective state coordinator. www.4hshootingsports.org

Ok, sorry for the thread hijack but I thought if you wanted a good way to increase youth participation then year round would be a good addition to the one day a year method.

Ok, I was working on other projects for a while and had some other distractions going on, but we're ready to work on next year's event in Michigan.

So far, the plan includes:

-Trap shoot (modified version for the kids..one kid, standign pretty close to the trap house, shooting a series of clays.)

-Local PD coming to show off some of their toys.

-K9 Training group bringing their puppies to do demos.

-CAS demo (we're looking for someone to do this since I think last year's participant moved south.)

-.22 rifle shooting.

-.22 handgun shooting.

-Safety training for the whole family.

-Fingerprinting kits and goodie bags for kids.

-Food.

Other stuff we're looking at:

-Hunting call demos and maybe a chance for the kids to try some of them out.

-Going to get with the DNR/MSU outreach program to see if can help out.

Etc. Etc. Etc. Lots to do.

Also, if anyone knows anyone or a company that would be willing to make a donation towards this, it would be much appreciated. We need ammunition (20 ga and .22), food and goodies to give away.
