Have a bolt action navy arms, that has been made over. Has 22.5 bull barrel and a Hi-lux 35-10x50 sharp shooter scope.I've looked all over the internet and found that it has a siamese mauser action, it also has a chrysanthemum stamp of the koishikawa arsenal of either Tokyo or Kokural, Japan. Did not have a ser# . It's stamped Navy Arms Co. Ridgefield, N. J. USA and on the barrel also is 45-70 cal. There is also the number 582 on it under the stock. Haven't fired as yet.

I've heard about those rifles. The action is as strong as most any 'modern' bolt gun. It is as accurate as the gunmaker who put it together was competent.

From an old article I read about it, one doesn't worry so much about the 'maximum' in the load manual. Begin at the low end and work up until your fillings start to fall out. Perhaps back off a bit from there. Not quite recommended, but one can achieve essentially .458 Winchester Magnum loads if needed (desired?). Certainly enough to settle anything in the North American Continent with proper shot placement.

I've always wanted one, but at my current age, I'd just as soon shoot a 'more comfortable' rifle.

Harry McGowan of St Anne, il, made a ton of these and I wouldn't be surprised if some were for Navy.
