Back in the 70's I sort of remember a caplock rifle that was called the Buffalo Hunter, I think it was sold by Navy Arms. It was .58 caliber and looked like it was a sort of cut down 2 band zouave. Anyone use one of these and are they still around?

The Buffalo Hunter was a shortened Navy Arm Zouave Rifle. It is no longer in production, but there are similar rifles available, basically shortened versions of other Civil War rifles. The Cook & Brothers carbine, the Parker Hale carbine, etc...

You might start with Dixie Gun Works or look for Navy Arms Buffalo Hunter on Gunbroker.

The Doc is out now.

I saw in the last couple years where the BH was reissued but it was quite spendy. I have been looking for a TC Big Boar for years and gave up so I got a BH and a Musketoon for a short barreled big bore deer/elk gun. The 'toon shoots well with a minie. I have yet to work up a final accuracy/hunting load for the BH but it shoots a very tight PRB load. So I know it'll be a good "thumper".
