Hi , I have a Navy arms 50 Cal Muzzle loader that I got back around 1983 have used it several times and it is a very accurate shooting rifle, problem is I don't know what model it is the rifle only says Navy Arms and made in NJ.
The Factory onced told me it was a Carbine model ? I'm trying to guess what I could sell it for , it is in shootable condition and 98% Rust free a new nipple is on the way. I bagged an 8 point just this past month.
Anyone have an Idea what it is going for ? Thanks.
Al.

Is it a Hawken style, or a mule ear side hammer buggy rifle? with pictures, or even a more complete description, I think we'll be able to help. heck, one of us may buy it off you.

This is what I have on the side of the trigger stamped on it is navy arms co. ridgefield NJ USA. on the other side opposite the trigger it reads 01686 .50 cal

Shot this one 3 weeks ago with it , after the gun was stored for almost 20 years, just my eyes are not what they used to be and I want a scoped muzzleloader.

No rust except the nipple area , and it is dead set at 100 yards without the elevetor I have it though.

That fits the description of the Navy Arms .50 Hawken Hurricane from the time period that was made in the U.S.A. and has a walnut stock.
So it may be worth closer to $200+.
It was also offered in .45 and .58 and in a kit.
The .58 was named the Hawken Hunter.

nice gun and nice deer! it is a Hawken style and looks to be in good shape. Prices range for these from $100 to $300. TC versions go for a bit more due to being made in the U.S. and having a lifetime warrenty. You seem to have a shooter there, you may just want to have it tapped for a scope mount and scope it. Much cheaper than selling it and buying a new gun. You know at least how to load and apparently how to take a deer with this one!

I got a reply from a Gunsmith that worked at Navy arms he says it is a "country Hunter"
Manufacture between 1979-1980 in .50 Cal., 6 groove, 1:34 twist, Bbl. Length: 28.4", OAL: 44", Weight: 6lbs. Model No. CHR050,should be worth $250-300 current condition and economic trend permitting , new ones retail for $450 , new ones have a different hammer, and do not have all the brass that this one has.
Thanks to you all there is a lot of knowledge here on this site..

I have that scope but it is not comfortable for me , with eye glasses

It doesn't resemble the currently imported Pedersoli Country Hunter at all.
Linked below is a description and photo of a Navy Arms [Pedersoli] Country Hunter with a 1 in 34" twist. It's the 2nd one from the top of the page and has a much thinner barrel and only a single trigger.

One way to find out if it has a 1 in 34" barrel is to check the twist rate. Also if the barrel doesn't show an Italian proof mark then the chances are that it was made in the U.S.A.. But if does have an Italian proof mark then you'll know that it's an Italian gun.

This one was made in the US in NJ, that much I got a long time ago when I sent it to the factory to replace the hammer.
