it is illegal to carry a fixed blade in NC- but is it? Is it illegal to carry one while backpacking, hunting, canoeing, fishing, etc (sporting purpose)
Also, do the tiny knives on SwissCards count as fixed blades- are they illegal (or will you be arrested, fined, whatever, if you have one)

I used to EDC a Swiss Card, and my rule of thumb was to treat it like a fixed blade, and not carry it places where carrying fixed blades was illegal or highly regulated.

There are a few laws in NC that govern fixed blades.

Concealed carry is illegal unless it is on your own property.

You can't carry a fixed blade on to educational property, unless it for personal shaving, instructional supplies, unaltered nail files and clips and tools used solely for preparation of food.

City parks and state parks generally limit you to a folding pocket knife.

Spring loaded knifes are flat out illegal.

There is however no law saying you can't have a fixed blade with you, when outside restricted areas. Of course you might want to have an excuse for when the police turn up anyway, why you have one on you, but if you are using it for a sport like hunting or camping etc, I don't see anything that would make this illegal, unless you had it concealed.

???

You're talking about ballistic knives which shoot the blade out, right? It's my understanding that regular switchblade folding knives are legal so long as they are not concealed.

IIRC, fixed blade knives are not necessarily illegal, and do not have a legally specified maximum length, but 4" is the rule of thumb. The swisscard fixed blade would not get you in trouble.

OPEN carry of fixed blade knives in NC is totally legal.

Just carry openly.
