Bought a Wilson neck die with removable neck bushings for my .223 WSSM.[yeah yeah skip the .223 WSSM is no good posts] Any way as this was the first time I have used this type of die I was unsure which bushing to use, so I FLR a case and seated a bullet. I then measured the case neck diameter and used a bushing .002 under that size. Will that give me enough bullet tension?

The die appears to only size .100-.200 of the neck.

Thanks, USSR. I really like the die [a real jewel of the machinists art] and get zero runout with the hand straight line bullet seater.

When you use a bushing die, brass spring back is outward. Your .002" under should be fine, but will only work if all brass is very close to the same neck wall thickness. If you took the measurement on a round that had maximum neck thickness for the lot of brass, you may end up buying 3 bushings.

The neck looks to be .2639" long when at maximum trim length. Sizing 1/2 of the neck .132" or more should work, all trial and error. Using bushings in my 243 win., i size about 1/2 of the neck @.120" Using a FL die, this method gives the best accuracy as the unsided part of the neck expands to center the round in my factory chambers.

I just measured a case and the sized down portion of the neck is about .100; thats all I can get, the case is fully seated in the die.
The brass I am using appears to have very consistent neck thickness[I don't have a ball Mic so I seat a bullet and measure at two points around the neck]
I may trim lightly if that changes.
