shooting young bucks.... here in the uk a young buck is one of the target cull animals especially when shooting roe deer. they have a territorial system where at the end of each year the young bucks get thrown out by thier dads. where populations are stable the does produce single kids each year. when they get a bit of hunting pressure as there is no predation they then start to produce twins more often. if the main buck is left well alone and lesser and younger bucks are shot he will have more does in his range to cover and they will produce twins. so in order to manage the deer upwards a cull plan might be to shoot the yearling and two year old bucks only. to manage deer numbers downwards we need to shoot does. The best venison i have had comes from a young roe buck before the rut.
