I have a real pretty Remington Model 14 in 30 Remington. I have full sizing dies (RCBS) and the Lee Collet Neck sizing dies (30-30 / 30 Rem). Anyway I wanted to see if once fired brass would chamber easily if only neck sized as pump actions do not have the closing torque/power as bolt actions.

To cut to the chase I was a little chagrined in that the Lee Collets neck sizing resulted in a loose hold on both some .307 and .308 Bullets. As a good note, the neck sized cartridge chambered easily but am wonder why the collet didn't neck down to a slightly smaller neck.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

By the way, if you have never held/fired a Model 14 they are truly a pleasure.

You aren't getting the collet fingers compressed all the way.
Screw the die down further.

Anyway, I think it is probably a bad idea to try to neck-size for a pump or auto-loader anyway.

As you noted, they don't have any closing power.
Conversely, they don't have any Opening Power either if you get a neck-sized case stuck tight in one!!

Thanks RC,

The reloaded, neck sized, cartridge chambered very smooth. I will try to tighten down the collet more. Thanks for the information.
