I've got a ton (thousands) of the ss109 pulls that I want to load up as blasting ammo. I know they aren't accurate etc, but for what I paid, I don't care.

I am able to push these bullets completely in the case with just my hands!

PPU brass, 1x fired by me-purchased new as factory ammo. FL sized in lee dies.

Any other bullet I try with this same brass, holds as it should.

I am not crimping. I tried a light crimp to see if that stopped it, and was still able to push it in until the cannelure stopped it.

the ss109 pulls mic at .223, not .224. Inside case mouth mics at .222.
I am guessing this is the source of the problem.

What do I do? Is there another process I am missing in brass prep? I am new to rifle loading-maybe It's me, but doubtful. Should I just crimp them, and blast away?

Thanks THR

Get another expander ball that's .001" to .002" smaller in diameter. Or polish yours down.

Since you have thousands and it's just blasting ammo, pull the expander from the die and sand it down with fine grit sand paper. Also try resizing without the expander in the die.

Since they are boat tailed it might be possible to tighten up the case necks a bit with backed seater die then seat the bullets since the boat tail would allow you to start them. I have never ran in to this to try but it seems reasonable when I think about it.....

Polish the expander down to fit and order a new one for regular work. BUT if they are under sized they will not be accurate.

I would follow Barts advice, he's a competent reloader IMO, and at least that way you can use them for blasting ammo.

I wonder if powder coating them would help accuracy any. But I don't know if that's something one can do at typical.223 pressures? I pretty sure it would solve some of the neck tension issue, but I doubt it would do much for accuracy, if at all.

Just thinking out loud, or at least trying to think, which can be a dangerous proposition for me at times.

Thinking gets me in trouble all the time. I think it may be highly over rated.:)

Size without the expander or depending on the die manufacturer get a carbide expander,I have Redding dies for my 223,7.62x39 and 308 and replaced the steel expander with their carbide expanders and have yet to have any loose bullets.
