Need 10/22 measurements

I need some measurements from a 10/22 with various types of folding stocks. (getting numbers to send the ATF and I don't own a stock yet)

I'm curious about the Ramline, Choate, Butler Creek, and any other decent (and available) sidefolders.

Can you give me the distance from:
-end of butstock to front surface of receiver? (stock open)
-rearmost portion of folded stock to front of receiver?

--- to be specific, "front ov receiver" = to the visible barrel/receiver junction on the top of the rifle

any opinions, advice, or other info appreciated

I have a Butler Creek and it is
folded
from rearmost portion of folded stock to end of foreend 19 3/4"
from rearmost portion of folded stock to front of receiver 9 1/2"
opening stock adds 9 1/4"

Wait one - you're telling me that the stock only extends an inch past the end of the receiver? Are you measuring to the visible receiver/barrel junction or to the front of the lockdown bolts under the barrel?

Hmmm... that means if I use a Butler Creek stock, this will be:
9.50 stock
9.25 butt
4.25 barrel past receiver

23" inches long per ATF measurement specs and
13.75" folded for storage.

This could be a cool SBR.
Now to figure out what suppressor I want on it....

Does anyone have masurements on the Choate or Ramline?

my quick 2 cents

Please avoid the Ramline stocks at all costs. they are weak and flimsy compared to the Butler Creek and Choate. when i've put a ramline folder to my shoulder, the stock arm actually can warp or bend if it is pressed it too hard. i could easily break the stock arm off the ramline, not so with the others.

also, stay away from ramline 10-22 mags too, again, they're crap.

I've heard the Ramlines aren't top shelf, but I figured if I was asking for info, I might as well include the greatest breadth of data possible.

Now to figure out how those last measurements came about...

NO,
from the rear most part of the folded stock to the front of the receiver, is 9.5", from the front of the receiver to the front of the fore end is 10.25.
The folded stock over all measures 19.75"

The unfolding part of the stock is 9.25 inches
Unfolded total length is 29"


I wish that Butler creek had made their folding stock with the backpacker foreend. A guy on Rimfirecentral built one from a folding stock and a backpacker stock. Folded and unlocked from the barrel it was about 12" long.
With a 16" barrel it made for a real nice backpacker kit.

Just curious, Bill. Why are you writing the ATF, and what are the measurements for?

I'm going to register the 10/22 as a Short Barrel Rifle. Part of the ATF Form-1 is barrel length and overall length. I want to get the paperwork started asap, as it takes 3 weeks or more for them to process it.

That would be a sweet pop gun. A 10/22 with a barrel that just reaches past the end of the forearm enough to thread and take either a suppressor or a birdcage AR flash suppressor. It would have a barrel about 11.5" long and would be about 21" long with the AR bird cage while folded and about 30" long unfolded.

here is my daughter shooting my 18" barreled 10/22 with the BC folding stock.

What sighting system are you going to use???
Bull barrel or tapered??

to register the ruger as a short barreld rifle, does that require the $200 tax ? or is there a differnt tax charge for that?

Yes, a $200 tax stamp purchase and all the requisit fun attached to filing an ATF Form-1 to make an SBR.

Yes, the barrel will extend just far enough past the stock to get a sppressor threaded on. The stock, however, will be chopped off not far past the mounting bolt and re-profiled with acraglas. This should get me an overall length in the 24" range.

I have a bull barrel on order. It will be cut down to about 4 or 5 inches. This will basically be a 10/22 pistol with a shoulder stock.

As for sights, I'm thinking cheap red dot.

So, let's see...

BC folder from end of butt to front of receiver, about 18.75 inches
Choate over same distance is about 20 inches

Take a 5" barrel, subtract 0.75 for the part that goes into the receiver and get 4.25"

Overall length for BC, 23", for the Choate, 24.25".

Hmmmm.......

I hear the Choat is a slightly better stock, but it looks like the extra inch and a quarter shorter for the Butler Creek might win. (that and I think I can fid one cheap )
