Looking at spending some money on a fast and good quality 5.56 trimmer. I'd like to get CTS, looks like a great product. One thing I dont know for sure is do I have to go back and chamfer/deburr the cases afterwords? That would suck!
Is there a such trimmer on the market that trims, chamfers and deburr all at the same time?

Giraud Trimmer

If you're only trimming a very few different cartridges, the Giraud trimmer is supposed to be very good. If you are trimming a bunch of different once, accessories could get expensive.

RCBS Power Trimmer

I have the above trimmer and it works well. If you buy the 3 way cutter heads, it will trim and chamfer in one operation. The down side is that when used various screws become loose; not that big a deal because you can just tighten them again.

I only wish I could drop $450 on a trimmer like that. Man that would make reloading 5.56 not suck. Maybe for Christmas?
Thanks for the links and info, the Giraud is defenitly the way to go! But right now all I could spring for is about $75.

To all you machinist guys out there, how hard is it to take a cutting tool like the one inside Giraud's trimmer and adapt it to a trimmer like CTS or a possum hollow? I would gladly pay up to a $100 for a trimmer like that.

You hit the nail right on the head for almost everything in life, if you want good and fast it's always going to cost you.

I use the Dillon trimmer for almost all of my .223 as its much faster than any of the others. You can size/deprime and trim 1800 an hour without touching a single case.

A few years ago I thought about adapting a Giraud cutter onto the Dillon but I have never had the need to. Probably should anyway because they would sell quite well I bet.

I 2nd the WFT

works fast and Great and is cost effective

I have tried lee Zip.... Lyman Crank.... and the WFT topes em hands down...

If you buy one of the RCBS trimmers...not sure which one off the top of my head...I think you can upgrade it later with a motor and the 3 way cutters

Maybe a small dab of blue locktite would help? Either that or take the screws out an give them a couple wraps of plumbers tape. Atleast you wouldn't have to chase them anymore.

Although I sent a link to the Little Crow WFT, I actually use an RCBS Trimmer powered by a cordless drill. I have the three-way heads for 223 and 308. Using this setup, I can trim up to 500 an hour and have the cases chamfered and deburred at the same time. I could not afford a Little Crow for every caliber I reload for, but would make perfect sense if you shoot a lot of one particular caliber.

The Giraud is a fine trimmer but basically it is a knock-off of the Gracey system. They both work the same way, at the same speed, but the Gracey costs a lot less.

Hmm. I'm gonna remind you that you said, "One thing I dont know for sure is do I have to go back and chamfer/deburr the cases afterwords? That would suck!"

I'm reminding you of that because you're right -it sucks. And you're no closer to your goal by choosing either of those trimmers. It doesn't matter if you only have to chamfer/deburr a few of the cases. That still means you have to, at the very least, check every single case. If you get the right trimmer you check the first couple and then there's no need to check any of the rest of the batch. That's huge.

Dillon claims that you don't have to chamfer and debur with their power trimmer.

with my WFT I dont really need to Debur.....

I do Chamfer since i shoot so many Flat Base Lead....

I may look at the Girad or gracey myself some day..... SPEED BABY SPEED

If you trim properly on a WFT, chamfer/deburring is unnecessay.

Once past the original cost of a Giraud, cutter assemblies for additional cartridges cost about the same as a WFT.

That said, I like and use the WFT trimmers. Someday when I get a wild hair I may order a Giraud. Right now, I do not trim the volume to justfy a Giraud and I may find a good bench drive for the WFT trimmer (I find drill motors cumbersome for trimmer drives).

I vote for a WFT trimmer with a hornady case prep trio. If you have to cut the crimp out of military brass it doesnt add much more time.
