I'm new to reloading, I FINALLY got the shell plate for my Hornady LNL AP for .223. I initially had it set up for .308, and didn't realize the pain in the posterior it was to switch over. Well, The dies are in, after much trial and error, didn't realize a lot of things, (particularly how much trouble switching the primer feeder was!). Now, the problem is, although it runs through pretty smooth, the case neck is too small (Winchester .223 new brass) for the Hornady (.224) bullets I'm trying to cram in them - I suspect die #1 (deprimer/sizer) isn't doing it's job correctly, I admit I'm a little nervous about setting it after the horrible experience with stuck cases on the .308 die. I'd hate to have to go through that with the much more fragile looking .223 die. Any help as to what I need to do?

If you are sizing your brass with the FL sizing die with the de-capper pin in place, then that will size the neck ID too. Yes, if you're not using boat tail bullets, it's a little more difficult.

you can buy a chamfer tool to chamver the case mouth so that non-tapered bullets sill seat easier.
The mouth needs to be sized smaller than the bullet for tension.
Your depriming pin should have an expander ball on it that stretches the case mouth out to the right size after the sizing die compresses it.Measure the ball and report back here as to it's size, please.
sometimes the expander ball needs extra polishing to make the resizing go smoother.

Although I haven't measured it, I can tell you

That it's a Hornady die, and the new never-fired Winchester brass pretty much slides right by it. I don't have the chamfer tool, but i did rig up a cutter (for screws) in my vise and it works - the problem with getting the bullets in the brass is solved, and of course as soon as I fixed that problem, another one cropped up! 'Sigh'. I couldn't get the primers to seat correctly, so I pushed down really HARD, and broke the little slider that feeds the primers into the press...I'll have to order another one from Hornady - In the meantime, I'll have to load one primer at a time -Wish I would have bought a single stage or turret for my 1st go around - woulda learned a lot more and not been so expensive! Another thing - I bought a forstner trimmer, and I went to set it up, it doesn't have a pilot pin I can use for .223! Even though it came with a 1/2 dozen of them, it didn't have one for that caliber! Talk about frustrating!:cuss:
