hey everyone, im a bit new here so please let me know if i am in the wrong forum here for this. i have not found any post with quite this same problem either so forgive me if there are and please point me to them. anyway here goes:
i have a mosin nagant 91/30 that is exemplary in all respects (including sub MOA accuracy) save one. the bolt will not open without TREMENDOUS if not cocked. opens fine if already cocked though, and if it is warm (like after shooting 20-30 rounds) it is even better. but it does not "stick" at all. it is just extremely stiff all around if uncocked. does not matter if there is a round in the chamber or not.

im sure everyone has seen the jokes about needing a 2x4 to open the bolt, but until mine heats up i actually need to use a heavy object to bash it open unless i pull the cocking knob backwards till it clicks. naturally i am taking the extra step to manually cock it before opening. if i open it uncocked i can feel the stock warping from the torque required until it gets warm after 20 or 30 rounds. it is a straight bolt izhevsk from 1942, but it has very few machine marks and no real rough spots that would affect it. head space has been checked and it passes.
if any more info is needed please let me know. again sorry if i posted in the wrong area or if a post like this already exists.
also i want to keep this rifle and keep it more or less original, since it needs nothing except bolt work, that i am hoping will be an easy fix

thanks

clean the bolt parts and pieces individually. Actually take it apart(go on youtube for info) and spray it all off with lots of brake cleaner or boil the parts in a crappy pot.

try to use the search function here too

also spray out the chamber with the brake cleaner and use a rag to wipe out whetever gets dissolved.

i hope i dont come off as impatient, but i am actually way ahead of you. i did this as soon as i got it, having known what to expect from previous mosins. these methods had no effect at all. also, when i sprayed the chamber and used a 20 ga. bore brush on said chamber very little came out. i know what you are getting at (sticky bolt syndrome) and i have cured a mosin of mine and a couple friends mosins of that problem, but this one is quite frankly being quite stubborn, and producing symptoms that dont quite fit with that. i thoroughly cleaned the bolt as well.

i read somewhere, cant remember exactly, that a slightly bent/warped firing pin or an overly hard/tense/long bolt spring could cause this. have not found enough data on this to be sure though, but i put the pin in a drill (making sure not to damage it at all) and it does wobble a bit starting at the raised ring that the spring pushes on. i noticed the spring also sounds like it is grinding slightly when the bolt is almost vertical when being cocked and when i removed it from the bolt it was pretty darn stiff. felt like a 25-30 lb spring easy.

thanks for the reply. will check the site again for this particular set of symptoms

edit: found 1 thread from 8 years ago about, that describes my problem exactly but no solution was presented
