hey everyone, im a bit new here so please let me know if i am in the wrong forum here for this. i have not found any post with quite this same problem either so forgive me if there are and please point me to them. anyway here goes:
i have a mosin nagant 91/30 that is exemplary in all respects (including sub MOA accuracy) save one. the bolt will not open without TREMENDOUS if not cocked. opens fine if already cocked though, and if it is warm (like after shooting 20-30 rounds) it is even better. but it does not "stick" at all. it is just extremely stiff all around if uncocked. does not matter if there is a round in the chamber or not.
im sure everyone has seen the jokes about needing a 2x4 to open the bolt, but until mine heats up i actually need to use a heavy object to bash it open unless i pull the cocking knob backwards till it clicks. naturally i am taking the extra step to manually cock it before opening. if i open it uncocked i can feel the stock warping from the torque required until it gets warm after 20 or 30 rounds. it is a straight bolt izhevsk from 1942, but it has very few machine marks and no real rough spots that would affect it. head space has been checked and it passes.
if any more info is needed please let me know. again sorry if i posted in the wrong area or if a post like this already exists.
also i want to keep this rifle and keep it more or less original, since it needs nothing except bolt work, that i am hoping will be an easy fix
thanks
