Again, appreciate all the replys. Good info.
A quick update.
My old wandering friend(I was greatly amused by that phrase, forget who said it here, apologies) has returned.
I wont further embarrass myself by mentioning where it was but I will say its been missing for over a week and the advice to always look up, above your natural sight line, because humans rarely look up, was key to finding it.
Yes, I hid it from myself.
Not on a shelf, fully opened in plain sight...siiiiiigghhh...
Not the first time though the longest time missing...
At any rate, I will be purchasing a Griptillian straight edge as a back up for when I am sure to do this again. That and I'm sending the Syderco in for some factory love. Its loooong over due.
I never really gave knives much thought, buy a cheap one beat it to death and go buy another.
This was my first good knife and as mentioned, a gift.
The limited research I was able to do based on responses to this thread has opened my eyes a bit. So thanks for that!
The wife wont bethanking you but I keep yourself secret safe!!
Oh, one last question regarding my newly found Syderco, the blade says AUS-6 stainless.
Any explanations of this as it might affect. Future knife purchases?
I'm not really steel savy. I assume its decent as Ive been not kind to this thing and it still cuts stuff so a quick explanation wouldn't go ignored.
I assume its to do with a hardness/ sharpness? scale?
Perhaps some proprietary metallurgy uniquige to Japan?
Any ways, thanks and feel free to chuckle at my ability to hide stuff from myself...God knows my spouse does. Cheers all!
Lots of errors, blame the kindle, after three edits I give up!
