Ok,
back to post 16. Defenestration is murdering some one by throwing them out of a window. For this you do not need a knife, just a high window and determination. I have heard of authorities seizing weapons but never a window.

If you are military, law enforcement, or (I think) fire/EMS, Benchmade does a pretty good discount if you order direct.

I'd also recommend the Griptilian as a reasonably priced everyday carry sort of pocket knife.

Benchmade is easily my favorite knife. The Griptilian or Mini Griptilian would be great choices. I LOVE the Axis Lock. It makes it so easy to open/close and the fact that a blade hole is not needed makes the knife much less wide and easier to carry in my pockets and still have plenty of room for my hand to get in and out.

I just bought a Benchmade 710 with M390 steel and is terrific.

I get my Benchmades at Knifeworks - best prices around and very fast shipping. The price you see on their website for Benchmades is NOT the checkout price as you need to add the promo code.

Exactly what I came to say. 710 in D2(?)...have had for 10 years maybe. It needed a dab of locktite at the pivot when I bought it, but has been flawless since. Partial flat ground blade, very useful recurve, ideal blade to handle ratio and ergonomics, axis lock... Can't think of anything I'd want changed about it.. Maybe a rougher G10? Probably not. Spyderco Military or another of their fully-flat ground offerings is a fine choice, too. Military is a great knife, slim, useful blade shape and grind, nested liner lock and g10 handles make you forget you're carrying it. If I could have one folder it would be a 710 in tool steel/HSS, coated blade, plain edge.

Again, appreciate all the replys. Good info.
A quick update.
My old wandering friend(I was greatly amused by that phrase, forget who said it here, apologies) has returned.
I wont further embarrass myself by mentioning where it was but I will say its been missing for over a week and the advice to always look up, above your natural sight line, because humans rarely look up, was key to finding it.
Yes, I hid it from myself.
Not on a shelf, fully opened in plain sight...siiiiiigghhh...
Not the first time though the longest time missing...
At any rate, I will be purchasing a Griptillian straight edge as a back up for when I am sure to do this again. That and I'm sending the Syderco in for some factory love. Its loooong over due.
I never really gave knives much thought, buy a cheap one beat it to death and go buy another.
This was my first good knife and as mentioned, a gift.
The limited research I was able to do based on responses to this thread has opened my eyes a bit. So thanks for that!
The wife wont bethanking you but I keep yourself secret safe!!
Oh, one last question regarding my newly found Syderco, the blade says AUS-6 stainless.
Any explanations of this as it might affect. Future knife purchases?
I'm not really steel savy. I assume its decent as Ive been not kind to this thing and it still cuts stuff so a quick explanation wouldn't go ignored.
I assume its to do with a hardness/ sharpness? scale?
Perhaps some proprietary metallurgy uniquige to Japan?
Any ways, thanks and feel free to chuckle at my ability to hide stuff from myself...God knows my spouse does. Cheers all!
Lots of errors, blame the kindle, after three edits I give up!

Yes, I hid it from myself.

I have a Mont Blanc fountain pen and a small Sebenza that have fallen prey to the same behavior on my part. I'm comforted by the fact that they're someone safe, although frustrated that they're safe from ME as well.

Aus-6 is roughly equivalent to our 440A stainless (Aus-6 has some Vanadium which 440A lacks). It is an entry level cutlery steel made by Aichi. It cuts well and holds an edge sufficiently and better than 440A. Better steel abound these days that will give better all-around performance, but at a higher price.

Very well, now I know. I didn't think it was anything terribly exciting as I believe the knife retailed around $85ish at or slightly over a decade ago.
I'm am afraid to start investigating quality knives as I suspect strongly they could be addictive.
As if I needed something else to waste my children's college funds on...
Thanks again all!

Glad you found your knife, I think I walk funny when mine go AWOL.

Spyderco is a great knife, I however am a Benchmade fan. I either carry a Mini Grip or a spring assisted Mini Barage. Both are smooth blades. I really do not care for serrated edges on my pocket knives.

Y'know, to a Spydie collector that's a desirable knife and they might trade straight for the modern equivalent.

I have to agree with all of the recommendations for Benchmade and especially the Griptillian, I have two and love them. They both take a wicked edge and the axis lock is great. I have both a plain edge and a combo edge, the combo edge was my first as it was on sale, but it hooked me. Plus most Benchmade knives are made in America and they are headquartered about 3 hours from where I live. I really like amazon, their prices are generally pretty good and if you get a prime membership, you get two day shipping for free. I just bought Monster Hunter International from Amazon, should be here Thursday.

Good Luck with your choice.

Apparently the S30V Manix2s are out now, just not with the full flat grind - http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/SP...Knife-3-38-inch-Satin-Plain-Blade-G10-Handles. The combination of the S30V steel, ball bearing lock, and steel lined G10 handles in the Manix2 makes its $90 price point a true value.

I really, I mean REALLY like my Griptilian. As testified here and here it's been a great knife. However, at current prices (as in the Gripi and the M2 being within a few dollars of each other) I'd be really tempted to get the S30V Manix2.

If they have the knife you want, it's usually hard to beat Cutlery Shoppe and Tactical Wholesalers' prices.
