Need a powder for 300 WinMag

Hello all,

I keep reading that H1000 is a good powder for 300WM. I’m going to a gun show this weekend to find some. Failing that, are there good alternatives I could use? Right now I’m using H 4831 and it’s pretty good. My Hornady load data book has some powders listed but I’m curious what y’all are doing in the real world.

I’m using bullets on the heavy side, 208 right now, & 215 if I can find any.

Tried many slow burners in my 24" 300 Win mag. None better than RL-26 in mine for velocity and accuracy.

H1000 is my favorite so far, I'm usually using 200eldx. I haven't been able to get my hands on RL22 or RL26 yet, but I have had good results with H4350, RL23, Retumbo, and SW4350.
Ramshot Magnum is next on my list to test out.

It's hard to go wrong with IMR4831.
But you're already running H4831. I would not switch.
H1000 worked for me. IMR7977 was showing promise. But it's being discontinued.

Today I found some. I grabbed the Reloder 22 before checking the date. It’s pretty old. Hopefully it will work, and thanks for the advice!

I'VE had very good luck with IMR 4350 and 180 gr Speer grand slams. I loaded some up for my buddy for his elk hunt, a load I used in my own rifle and also in my wife's rifle, both shoot that load under 1MOA. Turns out his rifle really likes that load also, he fired two 100 yard groups of 3, the first was 3/4" the second was 1/2", no exaggerations, virgin brass. He has a Bergara rifle with an Athlon scope on it, nothing fancy.
