Is there anybody that makes a real left handed 1911? I mean the ejection port is on the left side and mag release is on the right? I can't imagine that it would be that difficult to do with CNC equipment.

I believe that Randall made a portsider...

you could look on Gunsamerica or Gunbroker to see if one is listed.

Hope this helps you,

Matt

Keep in mind that a true left-handed M1911 will use special magazines with a mirror image follower and mag. latch notch.

Those will be challenging to find, even if you do find the pistol itself.

:what: Blasphemy!

but yeah, check gunbroker.com or one of the other auction sites... good luck :uhoh:

I didn't think about the difference in magazines.

As for committing blasphemy, its not like I’m mating a reversed glock slide on the frame. Its for my wife, while not being particularly…. well you know, she has problems with the brass bouncing back and jamming the gun when she shoots from retention. She has to cant the pistol until the brass is almost nailing her in the head, which is not fun.

Randall made them years ago. Considering they've been out of business for at least 20 years, good luck.

I'm a lefty and have absolutely NO trouble with a 1911. If you have an ambi safety, I see no reason to look for a left handed gun.

Gotta a ar15 too....standard setup. Works great.

Definitely look for a Randall. The entire gun would need to be a mirror image. Ejector moved to the right, extractor moved to the left, of course the mags and the mag catch as well as the slide stop and frame safety. Wow, what a project! Good luck,
Josh

I am a lefty and I have no problem with a 1911 as long as it has an ambi safety. On the other hand (left hand of course), I can understand a problem with brass ejection if you are firing with the gun held close to your body.

Now the idea of a left handed double action revolver would be a real concept. I always have to switch hands in order to reload.

Just have her shoot it "Homey" style. :D

Seriously, the 1911 is the perfect gun both southpaws and........those other folks with that sad condition.

Randall came out with them, then when they folded Safari Arms/Oly got their tooling and made lefthanded guns for a while. I know a southpaw with three of them and all the spares he could scrounge over several years. He thinks he has a lifetime supply now. Bear in mind that the majority of the parts in the gun are reversed.

A couple of years ago Caspian ran off 20 sets of lefthanded parts. I couldn't see the point of that, I doubt they could recover their setup costs in that few kits.

Randall made about 500 southpaws before closing shop. Their magazines are true southpaw magazines too and you can't just use a regular 1911 magazine in them. The follower was reversed so it would work with the southpaw slide stop. Randall's tooling was sold to Olympic Arms (MS Safari Arms) and they made about 20 of them before shutting down production. Oly then sold the tooling to High Standard. I don't know what happened after that.

I was fortunate enough to buy one NIB when Randall shut down. It's still NIB and I'll probably leave it to the Smithsonian.

Tuning the extractor and ejector can fine-tune where the brass lands. I'd try that before going sinistral with a pistol that will NEVER have spare parts readily available...
