Friend of a friend has these estate sale goodies. I probably can't buy 'em all so I would appreciate a little advice in the price and collectability departments. I have never owned a Colt (S&W family), but have always pined for one or two.

Which order would you rank these for collection and are the prices reasonable?

Thanks in advance, Philoe

Anaconda 4" 95% $750 and a box of ammo (stainless..I think they all were)

Python 4" 95% $750 Stainless

Diamondback 4" $550 .38 original wooden grips 95% Blued

Colt Commando...$300 No info..

The Anaconda and the Python have the rubber grips. No other info. Thanks

They're all about $400 to $500 below current Gun show prices except the Commando which is about right.

what Steve said-

you are really low. especially on the Python and Anaconda. Check out gunbroker.com

If as described I'll take them all if you don't want them.

Python would probably be #1

With those prices why are you waiting, go get them. I bought a used 4" blue Python 3 years ago for $800 OTD. The Python was in 80 - 85%. Many years ago (30) my dad got me my first Python, a blue 6" for $375 new. My dad was prepared to pay $425 in 1979.

Thanks for the quick responses. I knew they were a decent deal, but I had to ask just to make sure.

If you could only buy 2 of the 3 which would it be? (Omit the commando) Anaconda, Python, Diamondback .... I have other shooters and would be holding these for an occasional bang/investment. Thanks again

Yeah. I prefer older Colts, but a nice Python at that price probably would be "Gone in 60 Seconds." The Anaconda, too, if I had the scratch on me.

I'm goin' for it...

I'm going to see if I can buy the 44., the .357 and the .38.

Based on the market and fellow THR member responses, I think it difficult to pass on this opportunity.

Approx. $ 2000 for 95% Anaconda, 95% Python and 95% Diamondback (.38) in 2009 dollars.

Don't tread on me.

The Commando could be one of two different models. The first was a World War Two version of the Oficial Police .38 - usually with a 4" barrel, but sometimes with a 2". Parkerized finish and brown plastic stocks. The 2" in particular is much more valuable then the asking price.

The second was also Parkerized, but an aluminum framed version of the Cobra. Think of it as an economy model. Usually had black rubber stocks. A good user, but not much demand for it as a collectable.

Point is you can't find either version of a Commando for $300. All those prices are steals.

No, the point is that one might be a steal, while the other could be highway robbery.

Always know exactly what you are buying, and never sell until you know what you have... :scrutiny: ;)

You will make a handy profit. Keep the Python. They appreciate beautifully, and shoot even better.
Sell the others, and buy a handful of nice used Smiths.

I wouldn't take advantage of a close friend, (as these are proabably all below current pricing as others have stated) but if it's an estate of a friend of a friend, etc. you might just be doing him or her a favor and making it easy for them if you bought all four. If that's the case, you could sell off the ones you weren't interested in on gunbroker (or here in the classifieds) at fair current market value and cut your costs on the one or ones you keep. (You could end up owning that stainless Python for less than $500 - that would make it an outstanding deal.)

You need to consider for yourself whether to inform them they could be getting higher prices for them.

If all are in original good condition I would say the Python then the Diamondback then the Anaconda and Commando as far as Value and collecibility. If I could get a 500 dollar Diamondback I would do anything to get it including taking out a loan.
