Need advise on 7.62 Ammo

Have opportunity to buy some 7.62 NATO ammo. Steel box has the following info stamped on the side:

7.72 NATO M62
FOR M.G. M60 M73
Lot RA L 5632 A146

The rounds are stamped with "HP" on one side of primer and "69" on the other. The primers have three dots around the perimeter, and some sort of green compound was apparently used to seal the primers. Look like ammo I shot in my M-14 in the 60's, but it's been too darn long ago, or I'm getting too forgetful.....

My questions: Is this stuff safe?
Can I shoot it in my Rem .308 bolt-action?
Is 33 cents per round a fair price? (from a friend; want it to
fair both ways)

M62 is tracer

The standard M60 load is 4 ball (M60) and one tracer (M62) in 100 round linked belts packaged in a cloth bandoleer.

If you can open it you'll see orange tipped ammo.

Being marked also for the M73 machine gun the ammo is pretty old possibly. If I remember the M73 was modified and the name changed to M219 in 1980 or so but I might not be right about that. So the "69" is likely the year of manufacture.

HP = Hirtenberger (Austrian). Good ammo. Sounds like the ammo does not match the steel case it is in.

Thanks, guys!! Made the purchase. Ammo & box were mis-matched. Stamped "200 rounds" on the outside was crossed out, w/ "300" written with a marking pen. Should be decent practice rounds (FMJ).

I'd say you definitely got the better end of the deal @ 33 cents a round...While I have no personal experience with it, I've heard HP is excellent ammo and I've seen it going for well over 50-55 cents a round...If he just wanted to get rid of it, then you didn't rip him off.
