Need AR Advice

I'm thinking about getting my first AR type rifle. I'm interested in Armalite's M15A2 Carbine and I'm wondering how it compares with Bushmaster or Colt? I've only shot full sized AR's, and then only on two occasions. How much difference in felt recoil between a full sized AR (20" barrel) vs the carbine length (16" barrel)? Thanx.

Stick with Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt or Rock River and you'll be fine. They all make excellent weapons. Armalite is offering a free flash hider installation after the AWB sunsets, if that makes a difference to you.

I've never felt there was a much of a noticable difference between the two barrel lengths.

I will try to address the recoil issue. I shot a bushy 20 inch hbar with nothing on the end of the barrel and compared it to a bushy m4 with a mini comp break. The M4 had virtually no recoil while the 20 hbar had noticeable much more. The main issue here is that with the mini comp you don't lose the sight picture. Jack is right, all those companies are really good. Pick one that suits you best.

My wife feels that the 16" CAR has more recoil than the 20", but I believe her impression is subjective and mainly due to increased flash and blast from the shorter barrel. With either, the recoil from .223 is nominal, and the 16' presented no problem for my kids even when they were quite young.

either buy a bare ended AR now or wait to buy one with a removable muzzle device in September

IMHO, soldered and pinned brakes make barrel work quite unbearable

I can notice increased recoid between a 16" & 20" bbl. Those extra couple of inches add velocity that can be felt.

It's akin to the difference in recoil of .45acp between a 4" & 5" bbl.

Thanx for the replies/info. I think I'll go with the Armalite carbine with green furniture, after I replace my TV that's on it's last legs.

My pre-ban 16" CAR w/ collapsible stock recoils more than my post-ban 20" HB with A2 stock. I think weight is a factor but also the larger, heavier buffer and spring make the most difference.
