As my user name implies, I am a rank novice at handguns. I am looking for an inexpensive and reliable FFL in (or very near) Houston. I already know how to employ search sites on the web to find names. However, there are lots of candidates and I don't know who to choose. I would appreciate some specific recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Fountain Firearms on Hwy 6 and Bissonet (I think) is pretty decent.

RB's Treasures is an online mailorder place. http://www.rb-treasures.com/

However, if you want to buy a gun from them you can, and then pick it up at their shop in Missouri City, it is off 1092 and Cartwright.

They also do FFL transfers from far-away places on the cheap. They charged me $10 for my K-31 from AIM Surplus. I think they charge that for any gun regardless of price, maybe $20 for handguns.

There is a Gander Mt. in the area, never been there myself. Don't forget the Bass Pro Shop in Katy. Take I-10 until right after the Texas 99 exit.

I tried Gander Mtn, and they had to fax a copy of the sales info to their home office, then get permission to make the transfer etc. They said it could take a week turnaround to start the process. No thanks. Gander just started doing transfers and they haven't worked it all out yet apparently. I'd try another FFL holder.

I was very pleased with my dealings with RB Treasures. $15 for handgun transfers. Had to go to their house to pick it up, but that was no big deal. Very friendly people.

Carter's Counrty and Fountain were too expensive for me.
