Who do you guys use in the area? Who do you recomend? My buddy is about to " pull the trigger" on some lowers. So some quick info would be great thanks in advance. BTW Pasadena is preferred but south Houston is good too. If you have some contact info that would be helpful as well.

Martini Hardware

They're just inside the 610 loop off of Lawndale. They're very nice people, and don't gouge on their transfer charges.

All the "gun shops" in Pasadena/SoHo are higher than a cat's back on their transfers (and PGC is nothing but a bunch of barbers)

+1 on The Arms Room. I've purchased a couple of guns there and it seems like a good, family run shop.

Gun show, unless he is getting something very specific or a fantastic price, $30 transfer fee is a large percentage of the cost.

Easy to find lowers from $90+ at gun shows here. There is one in Pasadena or the GRB about every 3-5 weeks. Pasadena has free parking, but GRB shows are larger and usually have a better selection of lowers.

I could be wrong, but I think there are two Marksman indoor ranges, one in South Houston (a seperate city, like Pasadena or Bellaire) and one in Houston north of downtown off 59. I don't think they are related.

I've never been the one off 59, but the one in South Houston did a lot of after gun show pickup business while the Brady waiting period was in effect. Haven't been there is a very long time, but it was a much better than average indoor range back then.

I just called PGC and MID to verify, and here are their prices:

• Martini Hardware = $20 transfer (and bulk rates for multiple guns Xferred at the same time)
• Pasadena Gun Center = $25 transfer per item
• Marksman Indoor Range = $30 transfer per item

If you order a few lowers and get then delivered to Mr. Martini, he'll only charge you $40 or $50 max, while the other two'll soak you for $25 per receiver.

You don't even want to know what PGC charges to ship guns.

The nice part of doing business with Mr. Martini is that you can honestly tell your SO that you're off to the hardware store smilie-devil.gif

marksman is on the north side of houston.

Nope. They are in South Houston, on Nebraska Street, just off of Hwy 3 (aka, Old Galveston Rd). Great place to shoot, very nice folks.
if its the place i'm thinking about that was right around the corner from kenlee's i'll never set foot in there again. it was mostly cops in there shooting when i stopped in & the guy behind the counter was a smartass.

Dirtyjim how long ago was this that you had your bad expierience? Marksman is right around the corner from Kenlees. Everytime I go I have an enjoyable time. I really enjoy that they did some remodeling and now you walk into one room close the door and then go into the shooting area through another door.

Before when the door to the range was in the center wall some a-holes would in walk in hold the door open and scan the area before they would go to a lane all the whie people are shooting.

its been a few years, i think it was about the same time kenlee retired.
the guy at marksman may have just been having a bad day but he lost any future business from me.
if i need a transfer i use the arms room or cash cow pawn shop in alvin.
my work takes me all over the houston area so i try to keep up with where the gun & pawnshops are so i can check them out when i'm in the area.
