The rifle has a front sight blade that looks to be homemade. It is brass or some other soft yellow material that has been filed or worn so much that it is the same height as its base.

Is that the original blade or is it a replacement?? The base is a split stud with a pin through it that holds the blade in place.

If it is a replacement, are there any originals around or do folks just make another homemade one???

I appreciate the reply. The thing is the front sight base on my rifle is not dovetailed. It looks like it is soldered onto the barrel...with just a slot to put a blade into and a small pin that holds it on.

I will e-mail though; good idea. I just installed a cartridge stop spring that I got from them that cured the failure to feed problem.

The '92's as well as many models came with a very
wide variety of sights and some were brazed onto
the barrel. Special order sights could be almost anything.

Your description is sketchy, but sounds like one of the
original configs. If it's period and you want to maintain
the rifle's value, leave it as is. If you shoot it and can't
use the sight, well it's your rifle.

Dixie keeps some brass and German silver blades on hand and you may be able to fit one up that will work well and look right.
Replacing a worn front sight blade will not affect the value of the gun to any great degree, especially if you keep the original blade.

If the base stud is secure on the barrel, and you can get the pin out, you can easily make a new blade out of either mild steel or brass sheet.

If you use steel, just cold blue it when you get it filed down to zero.

The old-timers often used a silver coin (dime or nickle) to make a front blade.

I had a Colt SAA once with a front blade made from a Mexican Peso.

The base is attached to the barrel. The pin came out fine so I will try making one myself. BTW, I decided to leave the metal on the rifle as is and just redo the stock. I am going to shoot it now that I have it working again.

Thanks for all the info guys.
