But you might consider just replacing the barrel. There are 3" barrels available for that gun and the cost might be less than for cutting the barrel.

I would try to find a barrel before cutting the 4 inch at all. Gun Parts Corp had some and might still have them, i know they have model 29 .44 mag stuff i just finnished doing a 2 inch build for myself(Wow)flame Throwing little Sob.It's worth calling them anyway to find out,good luck with the project.
 
Well, the thing is I can't find a 3 inch barrel anywhere. Anyone know of any 2.5 inchers around? This is becoming more complicated than expected and the last thing I want to do is screw up my gun.
