How would that work? I send them a check, they ship to a local FFL, I pay the local FFL a fee, and go on my merry way? Anything else involved?

That's pretty much about it. You first get a copy of your dealers FFL sent to them.

should I be worried about my local FFL getting angry I'm not buying it directly through him?

What is the practical difference betwenn 1:7" twist and 1:9" twist?

I'm leaning towards the 6920 myself, but how well will 62 gr surplus ammo work through that gun? What about 55 gr ammo?

(Right now I've got some 62 gr on hand and no 55 gr. Just wondering if I'll need to avoid any specific load in the future if I go with the 6920).

The Economist asked, "should I be worried about my local FFL getting angry I'm not buying it directly through him?"

You need to find a local FFL who does this for a fee. It may not be your favorite dealer. In my experience fees range from $15 to $75 depending on local conditions and specialties. Remeber you avoid no legal requirements, and there may be charges for background checks, phone calls etc.

Who suggests you contact the source for a dealer in your area with whom they have a relationship. You might find a better dealer. :D

couldn't find the 6920 on the Sporting Arms site, so I submitted a quote request to get the ball rolling.

I'm praying for an overdue check to be agreed to be written tomorrow so I can order my AR's ASAP!

pray for my check! :)

Sporting Arms is out, but Becky will let me know when they get more in.

I sent an email to Larry Knesekguns to see if they have them in stock.

whoa - they're out too..... with 250 people on backorder.

This might be tough getting 1 let alone 2.

Turns out my local gun-store does do FFL transfers though, for $35 per gun. Seem reasonable?

Very reasonable. The same as my local gunshop here in FL.

Who is looking at the bottom end of the AR line, but I like my Mini-14. :D

TheEconomist,

I'm in the same boat, I've been looking for a decent priced one for about a week and a 1/2 or so.

I think the few shops that have them are asking around $1400-$1500 for them now, and it's probably going to get worse.

At this point I'm looking at getting an XCR and worrying about the 6920 some other time.

In a previous post TheStupid said, "$35 is robbery. $10-15 is reasonable."

TS, it depends on where you are and the avialability of dealers. I don't live in a small town with low dealer overhead and my dealer is open regular hours and has "relationships" i.e. License copy on file with most of the big distributors / national dealers. He told me who to talk to CDNN when I was interested to expedite the order.

Geoff
Who notes you may not get what you pay for, but you'll pay for what you get!
:what:

$35 is robbery. $10-15 is reasonable.

Spoken as a person with no idea how to run a business. 15.00 does not cover the time it takes to do such and the overhead costs involved. A guy workin outa his kitchen for a hobby maybe or a guy just doin folks a favor. The atf likes to see at least a profit from what a friend of mine who had his ffl before givin it up said and went through. He worked out of his house and the ATF frowns upon hobby FFL's and those are mostly who does a cheap transfer. I love it really- folk who themselves make big bucks and or have jobs with benefits begruding a guy 35 dollars for a transfer... unless you buy alot from a guy why do some of ya figure the guy OWES you free service? There are more direct costs involved than the five minutes you THINK it takes verses the real time to do so and the costs involved. And profit is NOT a dirty word although thay are NOT gettin rich doin transfers.

I would go with the LE-styled (A4-equivalent) due to lighter weight. I also appreciate the faster twist for use with hevier bullets. That fact is purely subjective. Either way, you simply cannot go wrong.

I agree on the purchase of two at once. In doing so, you have one for use and one for back-up. Or one for you, and one for your wife. I know many, many shootists who have two of most of their firearms, so they can always have one being "worked on" and the other in use. Most of them are competetive shooters. Whatever your reason for purchasing two at once, it is your business and your right. That fact alone justifies it.

Let us know what you decide. Enjoy. By the way, I just turned one shade darker of envy-green. A Colt...wow! :(
