It's summer now, i think, and i'm starting a new project.

I want to make a case for my AK out of a case that was origonally designed for a musical instrument.

ive been thinking along the lines of a guitar case, but would be open to ideas.

There are a couple criteria though.

Price of making it must be kept under 30$

Must hold AK with a 40 round mag inserted.

must hold 4 spare 20 rounders.

It's meant to be a neat range case of sorts and also a bit of a conversation starter.

If anyone has a hard case they'd like to get rid of heres a chance btw.

Make the trigger attached to the handle so you can fire it thru the case, that would be awesome. :D

Does the AK have a folding stock? I can fit my Saiga 12 in a soft-bodied electric guitar case (the kind shaped like a guitar, not a rectangle) with the stock extended (barely) but theres no room for anything else and not really a protective rigid form. A hard bodied acoustic guitar case should work fine and have a touch of that Desperado in it.

If you're cheap like me, get one used second hand acoustic guitar case. The wear and tear, and stickers on the tolex vinyl covering makes it only more authentic :D

Stop by the hardware store or wherever else you can buy or beg for some 2" thick closed-cell foam (the kind you see in foam matresses), cut one to the shape of the case and glue it on the bottom of the case. Cut an identical one as before but draw a layout for the firearm and any accessories, then cut about 1/8-1/4" smaller so the firearm fits snugly when inserted into the cutout. Glue this fancy silouette sheet to the foam on the bottom of the case and the gun should fit nicely in it.

Buy or find a piece of 1" eggcrate (bumpies sticking out) and glue it on the lid of the guitar case so it holds everything in. A can of cheapo aerosol contact cement works great on foam.
