Far more Police officers are killed by drunk motorists and careless drivers, far more inner city youth are killed by cars than AK-47s.

Note not USED in a crime , just "connected" . Maybe just happened to be in the house at the time of a raid for drugs, stills, tax evasion, (place any crime here) .

Perhaps the reason more criminals are using AK-47 type guns is the stupid stories that get written about them. Both before and after. The news industry makes these things seem like wonder weapons then laments when some criminal decides to use them. I don't know which is worse the news people or the stupid politicians that give them the sound bites.

Too bad the Ammo isn't more readily available, or I'd consider one. So I'll keep saving for my AR-15. Of course I need to get a 30/O6 soon too and that's a bit more affordable.

AKs and other so-called assault weapons are terrorizing their communities and endangering their officers.

Well, then, we'll just have to lock 'em up! I've got space in my gun safes for at least a couple. Who's with me? Surely we can tame these ravenous beasts?

Have 6 AK variants and counting on getting a few more...also have 3 Saigas and still plan on getting a few more...you know, the 2nd Amendment and all that!Guns in the wrong hands can be a dreadful problem...thats just common sense...so to stop more AK's being on the streets...buy em yourself!

I got about 500 bucks saved up. Still deciding on whether ot not to keep saving for a Bulgarian or just buy an M70AB-type. I'm also considering buying an SKS first, since those are found relatively cheap, even when you're getting ripped off for one. After I get one, I'll consider either growing out the Columbian druglord mustache, the Russian five-o-clock vodka shadow, or the full-face terrorist beard to go with it. Either way, I'll be terrorizing people wherever I go.

You know that sliding thing on the sights? That's not to compensate for distance, that makes it more powerful.

Turn it all the way up and you can down a 747.

I just read this story on yahoo, and I had to look at the pictures to see how bad the information they were giving was. "Guns of choice in street shootings," that is what the reporter said. The sad thing is I can't say that I don't believe leftist drivel like this can be passed off as news, because it happens everyday.

This "AK-47 type rifle" must be the rare "AK-15"

I noticed a bunch of those types of errors in the photos (much less the article).

Perhaps guns are more evil when they're not associated with our own army and made in the USA?

Not sure as to the point of the article. Other than "investigative" reporting is dead and fact-checking isn't done anymore.

I saw that. It burns me up that of all thing to report on, they can't come up with "better" stuff. There are so many other, more important things in the world...

On the other hand, hopefully it's not just the bad guys collecting those AKs ;)

Foxnews.com had that article this morning. I noted who wrote it: Associated Press.

Thus, anything in that article, from the first word to the last, must be verified by other sources to be believed. AP's recent history of reporting is one of half-truths, outright lies, and willing propaganda stories for terrorist wackos.

Well gee, we really don't have any AK-47s to pose with for the cameras that we're 'taken off the streets' so we'll pose with one of our officer's carbines to show what kind of weapons the 'bad guys' are carrying

I seem to remember a recent article where four people fought off a group of violent thieves in their home, with the aid of an AK-47. Basically, one of the four hid in a closet from the goblins, and the AK just happened to be in the closet with him.

Wish I could remember where this happened. Two of the goblins died.

a powerful, rapid-fire weapon

so a cartridge that from it's onset was a step down, is now 'powerful' :what:

just like they demonize all those 'powerful' 9mm handguns.

I consider myself VERY pro law enforcement, but I'd like to see cops stop using their badges as political levers, to move social policy.

You want to vote, campaign, run for office.....do it on your own time.

but when you ware the badge...your a civil servant and not a political lobbyist for the Brady bunch.

How many of these AK wielding druggies have been in and out of the courts and jails? How many are illegal immigrants?

It's a failure of our judicial system and our society to actually punish criminals and secure our borders that allows armed drug gangs to thrive....

It's the likes of the ACLU, that cares more about the rights of these societal parasites than law abiding tax payers.

and often tumble, rotate, pancake or shatter, doing grievous damage to the body.

That describes the action of a 5.56 or a 5.54x39. I can recall reading numerous posts about how stable 7.62x39 FMJ is and how the Russians have been trying to improve it over the original m43 loading - ultimately leading to the 5.54mm AK-74.

The article wasn't written by a cop, it was written by a socialist nanny stater trying to inflate and sensationalize a problem by saying the equivalent of "it's for the children!" Saying "it's for the safety of our brave law enforcement officers!" is equally offensive to me and a lot of my brother officers, I daresay. The guy's a kook. Don't let him throw you off the scent with rhetoric.

It wouldn't surprise me terribly if this guy has written articles about "the strong-arm tactics of police" and "social injustice in our court system." People like this are intellectual prostitutes.

Bad guys carry AKs, good guys carry ARs.
Bad guys carry Hi-Points, Good guys carry Glocks.
People may not like it, but that is the way it is on this part of planet earth.

And to think, it was but a short thousand years ago that the arms race pitted the longbow against the Mongolian recurve bow,,,,,,,,,,

If you outlaw any weapon it does not make the crime of murder go away and it doesn't make the murder any more palatable.

What does a nice one cost?
In reporter fantasy-land they cost as little as $200 and fire 600 rounds per minute.
In reality-world, the cheap ones are about $350, better ones are in the $500-$900 range. If you want a real full auto add a 1 in front of and a 0 behind those numbers.

Thanks. I'm guessing the $350 ones are military surplus and the $500-$900 are new. I think I may have to get me one just to keep them off the streets. ;)
