Need help finding a first pistol

Smith and Wesson Model 10. 4", I prefer the tapered barrel.

I doubt there is anything better for a first centerfire handgun.

Stoeger Cougar or Makarov. I know the Mak doesn't quite fit the "new or almost new production" but they're simple, reliable, easy to conceal, all-metal, and they meet your other needs. Maybe a little weak for pins but anything 9mm is going to be a little weak for pins.

I have an sp-101 with the 3 inch barrel. I have no problem shooting a box of Remington 125 gr .357 maggies. The 3 inch barrel limits your range to around 15-20 yds. I had a GP-100 it shot great out to 100 yds(I sold it darn it), but had trouble carrying it concealed. The sp-101 conceals great. Good luck in your quest.

sorry for my lack of posts....these 5-to-9's are really cutting into my free time....

anywho.....finally picked up a pistol over the weekend........some of you will be sad......most of you( i think...) will be proud...

was in the gun shop the other day...and really didnt see much that caught my eye......then i proceed to browse a bit more and i saw a Ruger MK3......and i was like...."you know.....for a first pistol....a 22 is probably a MUCH better idea....".......so i nabbed it.

got it home and proceeded to break it down to clean it....well apparently the salesman forgot to mention the engineering degree required to get it back together.....ive solved rubix cubes in less time.....

luckily i had someone much wiser than myself show me the errorr of my ways, and i finally got it together.

i then took it to the range and gave it a nice break in with ~700 round

imma tell ya...thing is a blast!

Congrats, you picked an excellent first pistol. After you get some time with it, head over to Rimfire Forums and consider:

-a Sam's bushing (will remove magazine safety)
-a VQ extractor
-a VQ trigger kit

Mine also wears:

-VQ rubber grips
-Ultradot red dot sight.

excellent

I know this little lady back home who sets these things up for competition. She has 9 of them, and for a college student, she's really got an impressive setup. One is nearly all custom, and wears a holo sight.

You will learn all of the basics for half the price, and risk fewer of the recoil induced bad habits.

I would definately say that for a first centerfire, a ruger GP-100, or one of the several milsurp pistols would be great for ya. They're usually cheap, strong, and meant to handle rough useage.
