Whats throwing me off is all other mausers I have seen have barbells that taper down in steps.mine tapers like a rat tail.and its been cut to 16in.it has been modified very well and the custom walnut thumbhole stock matches every contour and notch on the action and barell. Its a nice gun and I don't know how much it is worth.

Some of the mauser sporters had the steps in the barrel machined or drawfiled down to create a tapered barrel, my Kimber is like that.

How can I find out exactly which model and when it was originally manufactured the serial number reads 91216 with the letters H K in front of the serial number it is also states. Carl gustafs stads gevarsfaktori it is in 6.5x55mm

I think they have also changed the safety lever because it don't match any I've looked at and says MARK II on it.

That's right, it is a Dayton Traister Mk II SCOPE SAFETY added as part of the sporterizing.
A regular Mauser 90 degree flag safety would not clear a scope, so any decent sporterizing job would include one of these or the Buehler.
They cut the thumb piece off the striker, too.
