Howdy, folks-

I need help identifying an older shotgun for a friend. It has a 30 inch barrel, 51 inches overall length is 12 guage, and is marked 'full' on left side of barrel.

Proof marks on top of barrel read
REMINGTON ARMS CO, INLION, N.Y. U.S.A.
PATENTS, FEBY,3,1903, MAY,6,1905

Looks a lot like a win model 12, has take down bbl, and corncob front end. Unusual safety that pushes through the triggerguard from rear to front - ala-garand, and no side ejection. This shotgun loads and ejects through the bottom, like an Ithaca 37. The bolt release is a button on the right side of the receiver.

It appears to be refinished, as there is evidence of heavy pitting, but under a nice bluing.

The chamber lenghts out to about 2-9/16s.

Any help with model number and est. value appreciated.

All the best-

Could this be a model 29?

It seems that the patent dates on the barrel are too old to agree with production dates of 1930 - 1938 as listed on the Rem site...

Are these POS?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert, but I'm inclined to think it's a model 10. Let's give it a little more time here, and if no response, I'll move it to Harley's forum.

YOur shotgun appears to be the Remington MOdel 10. I am attaching a photo for your convenience. There should be some markings on the barrel, just above the chamber area showing the model #

Model 10.... maybe...

Looking at Remmy's site, they have this pic up of the M10, and my receiver is smooth, while this pic does not...

My serial no. does start with a 'U' as the website says.

No model or any other markings on receiver top... sorry.

Thanks for the feedback so far-

Almost positive it's a Model 10A. The Model 29 was an 'improved' model 10 IIRC, however I cannot recall ever examining one of those types. There is a hollow pushbutton on the right side of the 10A which releases the action. This is in about the same position as the upper screw on the 29 shown below. From your photos, it's difficult to distinguish between the types. You decide. Here's a photo of the 29:

The bolt release is on the side like your pic of the M29, but this shotgun I have has only one screw below the bolt release, where the M29 has two in the photo...

Yes, your gun does look like a Remington 10A. Here's a photo of the 10A that illustrates the same stock and same screw pattern to a degree. For some reason, the forward pin hole (whatever it is) is in a different location? Might be just a mid-model change. Don't know definitively.

I also observed a difference in the safety on my shotgun being in the front of the trigger guard, as a push-through type... the pic of the 29 has a more familiar crossbolt.

Attached is a closeup of the shotgun receiver-right side- that I have.

Thanks,

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!

Thanks, Badger, you beat me on the reply!

I appreciate your help with the information and pictures - you folks always help me out.

Thank you!

Now I'm off to find some spare parts... the hammer falls sometimes after you cycle, squeeze - nothing, release, pause - CLICK! Not Safe!

I'll give it a good cleaning and size it up further.

Thanks again!
