I have an XD40 that I've had since February. Love that gun: soft trigger, soft shooting. The only problem I have is that it is dead-on...two inchs to the left of the "spot" (I use a paper plate with a stick-on orange dot at 13 yards). I've used it with a table and support, as well as free standing, and it always hits slightly to the left. If I aim two inches to the right, it hits the dot.
I marked the sight location with a pencil line then tapped the dovetailed sight with a brass punch and hammer. Tapped harder, checked, tapped harder, then quit. Is there a press that will move this sight? There is a scribe mark on each side of the sight. These might be holding it in place. Thanks for your help.

Remove the slide and soak the rear sight in penetrating oil for 24 hrs. Do not use the type with magnetic particles. Then rest the slide on a soft piece of wood like cedar or redwood and give it a smack with a brass punch. After it moves clean the oil out of the rear sight, reassemble and use light coat of oil to protect.

Does the XD have a set screw? If so, loosen it first.

I think you can also buy a sight moving press from Brownell's.
