What I dont know about shotgun shells would fill a book so I really need help.
I want to use a buckshot load for HD is #4 shot the same as buckshot or os it birdshot? I have some #8 and #6 for getting used to the gun with.
I have a 1200 Winchester with both barrels and a 1300 riot gun with 7 round mag. I want to keep both loaded with the best HD shell.
I have read the thread about penetration of buckshot and am concerned about not having the correct load. I understand the general concensus is OO is the order of the day but in the thread there differing opinions.
Please, help a dummy get educated in this area.
Thanks in advance

I don't if this will help you, but it helped me to visualize the differences.

Hi, Bennett, and welcome to THR.

If it's not labeled buckshot on the box, it's almost certainly birdshot. Also, most buckshot these days is sold in 5-round boxes.

thanks this helped me out, I see 7.1/2 is not buck I thought it was... its more like bird shot?? Im a newb on shotgun ammo... value packs use 7.1/2 so I am getting 12g 7.1/2 rounds with like 20-30 tiny lead ball. I thought it was buckshot, Probly have to look at a gun shop for buck 00.

can you shoot 00 buck in the same barrel as your shooting 7.1/2 in? I know you have to have the RIGHT SLUG ROUNDS for non rifled and rifled barrels.
