My son uses a Remington Spartan 310 O/U for his trap shooting. All is well with this weapon except that it is very stiff to open and close. Most of the culprit on closing is the extra stiff springs on the extractors. Another member of his team had the same problem. It was suggested that the extractor springs be changed to a lighter gauge. My son already has the ejector function disabled on the Spartan per the manual. He prefers the extraction mode on the trap field.

So here is my problem....

I am a pretty good machinist and mechanic type. I have the extractor breakdown in the manual showing the extractors and the spring assemblies. For the life of me I cannot figure out how the extractors are disassembled. I have a picture attached to this thread for viewing by any of those who might could help.

It looks like they are held in by the ejector sears, a common arrangement.

It may be common, but that doesn't matter if I don't know how to do it! The reason for my post was to solicit an explanation of the procedure on how they are removed. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Milkmaster. Removing of the extractors is very easy job - first you field strip the shotgun, then press the extractor with your thumb and with the index finger of the other hand pull away from the monoblock the opposite end - the triangular one. about 5mm gap is fine. Keaping it pulled (or bended) you carefuly release your thumb. That is all. Be carefull with the extractor spring. Use just your hands - no tools. Be carefull not to cut yourself on some sharp edges...

Best, Boris

P. S. This "Spartan" is a russian IJ 27 EM

Thanks Mizar for the detailed explanation. I successfully removed them tonight after reading your post. I had tried that procedure before, but I did not use enough pressure then. I was afraid my technique would cause damage. After your message I just tried a little harder and they came right off. I took eight coils off each spring and reinstalled the assemblies. Everything still works just fine. The extractor/ejectors now pitch the shell right beside me instead of 10 feet behind me. That is one benefit, but the most helpful thing is closing the action is much easier for my young son. The Spartan is his trap gun. He is much happier now. Thanks again for the help.
