I have a Traditions Springfield Hawken rifle .50 caliber. I need to know what the name is for the screw that goes right by the nipple. I am in need of a new one. Thank you.
I don't know the thread size or length of that screw, but if you can determine those numbers (perhaps the local hardware can help), Brownell's (http://www.brownells.com/)is one good source of gun screws. Or give Traditions customer service a call (860-388-4656).
THE Ultimate Cleanout Screw for CVA & Traditions guns.
These were $2 each plus shipping from Deer Creek Products, tel: 765-525-6181.
They're stainless steel and require a nipple wrench, but these really are the easiest to turn since you can get a better grip with a nipple wrench as opposed to a screwdriver or an allen wrench. And a nipple wrench is usually more handy when shooting or in the field too.
Aren't they just plain beautiful?
Just try to describe them well to the nice lady on the phone and order several because there's a minimum shipping charge.
These are discontinued CVA cleanout screws.
My Traditions Frontier uses a 5x0.8. My original is in the bottom of my septic tank. I got one from our local hardware store. It's a fairly common size. Those shown the previous pics are neat, and being able to use a nipple wrench is a plus. I had to settle for a Phillips head, but it got me shooting again, until I can get a better replacement.
