Ok, brothers and sisters, I desperately need your help, ASAP!!!! I was disassembling my M14 the other day when I was looking at the trigger group, which I had never disassembled before. I wanted to switch out the trigger guard that was on there with a new mint condition one I had acquired. Since I had never done it before, I sort of played it by ear (not a good idea!!!!) I ended up punching out the hammer pin first (without uncocking the hammer) because I thought that once that pin was out, the guard could easily come off. However I was still unable to get the guard off!

So, to try to fix that I punched the trigger pin out to try to get the trigger and sear out. However, since I did not uncock the hammer, the trigger will not come out! It is jammed in there! The hammer (the part of it that contains the hole for the hammer pin) is now jammed down past the trigger housing's hammer pinhole and the pin can not go in now!

The other part of the hammer (thinner part by the trigger mechanism) is now caught up on the top of the top of the trigger mechanism where it makes a T to hold the hammer's T shaped end. Both pins are out, and the hammer is so jammed and stuck in there that I can't get it out/loose, even with exerting a fair amount of force!

I do not wish to ruin my trigger group as it was a national match one, though I am going to have to order a new trigger group while I wait to get this one fixed! (any suggestions for good/cheap places to get one?). I must get this trigger group fixed, I know that there must be a way! I am counting on you good citizens to help me out! The group is not broken, just really, really, jammed in there! I will try to upload pictures of it later on if I can! Please help me out, save me $50-$100!!

IF you need more info on the problem, or need it described better don't hesitate to ask! My rifle is a useless club without this thing! It is very desperately needed!!!!

Thank you in advance!!!!

For a replacement, try the Civilian Marksmanship Program. They have them for $35 and they are USGI. The one I got blows my SA original away (pardon the pun). Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I'm guessing that the hammer spring is what's causing your problem. Agree with telewinz that you should bring the trigger group to a smith. If anything, wear eye protection. That spring is under alot of pressure and if you dislodge it, the spring and the housing may become a projectile....

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! I just called Armscorp, and even though it's been months since I last called them the call instantly knew who I was just from my name! He said he would fix it for me no problem, and to just send it over!

YEAH!

I also called up CMP and asked about their trigger groups, the lady was like,
"the ones in the best condition now are the Springfields and TRW ones, so I would request those manufacturer names."

I was like,

"So request TRW and I shall recieve?? YAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEHHHHHH!!!! So what if I am not satisfied with my order?"

"You can send them back for a full refund."

Well, heck, with that type of bargin (TRW trigger groups for $35 each) I just had to order 4 of them (all TRW requested of course). That way, I will keep the best one and send back the rest!

Hi, guys,

Blain doesn't want a new trigger group, he just wants to fix the one he has.

Blain, that sounds like deep trouble, but it is not beyond repair.

You say you removed the trigger pin. You should be able to move the front sear (top part of the trigger) enough to release the hammer. Once that is done, the trigger assembly should pull up and out, along with the hammer spring housing, spring and plunger. If you removed the hammer pin, you should be able to swing the trigger guard down and wiggle the hammer free.

Now pull the trigger guard back to where the guard is fully down and the top part of the latch is almost at the tang that holds the trigger pin. With the trigger housing rear to your left, and the open part up, lift the trigger guard up and it will twist away from the housing. You may have to fiddle with this a bit to find the place.

Now you can replace the guard, putting it on in reverse of the way you took it off.

Then put the guard upand align the holes. Put the hammer in, and line up its hole, then insert the hammer pin, big end on the top (right).

With the hammer down, put the hammer spring housing, spring and plunger onto the trigger assembly. Then, keeping the little point on the back end of the trigger above the slot in the trigger housing, insert the hammer spring and plunger into the notch in the hammer. Holding the trigger housing as if it were a pistol, with the front as the backstrap, place the index finger on the sear and pull it toward the front, compressing the hammer spring. When the trigger lines up with the hole, insert the trigger pin. Make sure it goes through the hole at the back of the trigger spring housing.
