Need help w/ Winchester Rifle!

Ok well im now 17 and since i was about 15 i became extremely interested in firearms. I new from before we had a deer rifle just sitting in our attic since 1987 so during a winter day i took here down and it was all rustic and nasty looking and well since then its a beautiful piece of work the stock is so colorful and the metal is not bad and it shoots great to.

The Caliber is 38-55 , on the barrel it states Winchester Repeating arms Co. new Haven, Ct.
Octagonal barrel and has a rear peep type sight.

The serial number is #28xxx if anyone can help me out please do, and anyone to pull records on this rifle? Thanks all!

Blue Book says Winchester 1894 no 28,xxx was made in 1895 the first full year of production.

Your tang sight is on backwards, it ought to be perpendicular to the line of sight and should fold forward.

You have quite a find -- this is a superb rifle. Do NOT refinish it. Just keep it cleaned and oiled. Refinishing would reduce its value to a collector.
