https://missouribullet.com/details.php?prodId=354&category=6&secondary=36 so guys been loading sierra 170gr bullets but the price at $36 a box of 100 has gotten a bit expensive! so I have played with cast bullets in the past for the 30-30 but been a while, so this link above I have some of these and really like them so my question is I wanna try to run these at close to the velocity but accuracy in important so the loads with the jacketed sierra 170gr I use Winchester 760 powder at 33.6grs with this bullet and this is slowest load in the old data I went with years ago witch shows it going 1975 feet per second so is there a way to get close to the same velocity using this coated cast bullet from Missouri bullet company so all data shared if possible i'll accept full risk and all help appreciated??

First things first... what are you shooting these in? Have you slugged your bore?

You can get jacketed velocities with cast bullets, but to avoid accuracy and leading issues, you need to size the bullet to YOUR bore. I shoot a good deal of cast bullets, including in .30-30 and .308, with excellent results. I did have a monkey wrench thrown in... my new Savage 99 in .30-30 will require a bigger bullet than the standard .309" bullets I've used for everything else...

The .311" bullet diameter may be ok, if it chambers? Its hard enough at 18 bhn.
I have loaded a 173 gr , but with a gas checked base. No coatings. No idea how the coated bullets handle pressures. I used reduced loads of IMR 4895.

The choice of Winchester 760 powder, a ball powder , is not a good one. Trying to down load it may cause problems.

I would suggest H4895 because its used for Hodgdons "Youth Loads" This powder allows greatly reduced loads that are safe.

Why not try running them at 1600 FPS and then working your way up?
From old accounts 1600 FPS or less is what worked best in a 94 Winchester with cast bullets.

What rifle? If it’s a Marlin, you may have problems getting accuracy at 2,000 FPS in a micro groove barrel. Having said that, I have no experience with these coated bullets. With bare naked lead, .311” is very tight in my Marlin and won’t chamber without shaving lead in my Savage 340. You may find you are stripping coating. .310” is generally a safer bet.

My go-to load for 170 grs cast flat point is 16.5 grs IMR 4227 for 1720 FPS. I understand that with coated, you can go faster, but don’t know if that’s true in a micro groove barrel.

If it’s a cut rifled barrel and .311” bullets aren’t stripping coating, your start data at 1975 FPS is a good place to start.

Good luck.

okay well guys what I have is both a Winchester 94 and marlin 336y so I hope to use .311 in my Winchester as I read .311 is very good in this marlin with micro groove barrel.

i used to use sr4759 powder but since it was discontinued in which i got excellent results but what powder replaced it??

IMR4198 is my standard for cast rifle bullets, I use IMR3031 if I need a bit more velocity.

In my 336 19.8grn IMR4198 gives me 1675fps with a GC 170grn, 21.5grn gives me 1900fps with excellent accuracy from both my 336 and my Savage 99.
26grn IMR3031 gives me 1900fps, 28grn gives me 2000fps.
26grn IMR4895 gives me 1750fps.

243 is also correct, H4895 would be another good choice because you are able to safely download it, if necessary.

I've run their cast 245gr at 2100 in 308. They grouped about 1 1/2" and under.
I would try them at the starting load and work up. IMR 3031 is a great choice for cast bullets.

A while ago I used the Laser Cast 170's made for the 30-30 in a couple 94's, a 336 with microgroove bbl, and a savage 340. One load was just flirting around MOA in all of them if I did my part. I was using IMR 3031 and i'll see if I can find my data but it was around 1950 fps. IIRC those were .310 FP. I am going to try those coated bullets from MB one day soon but havent yet.

That's what I use for the most part. I do have a fetish for the Montana 170grn FP/GC bullet, it has demonstrated excellent accuracy in just about everything I've fired it in.

I'll bet your IMR3031 load is in the 26-28grn load area.... just sayin'. :D

i just bought my first can of IMR3031 today and have loaded up some 173gr gas checked bullets with 22.5gr 3031, they were sent to me a while back! plus i also loaded up some 165gr plain base coated bullets from MBC at 22.5gr 3031 so gonna see what these will do tomorrow!
