Here is the situation: A good friend recently passed away, his family has asked me to help liquidate the guns in the estate. None of them are gun people and have no desire to keep the guns. I have an idea of what they are worth, I know what he paid for quite a few of them, and I realize that values are affected by location. I would like some input though, mainly to make sure I do right by the family.

Remington 870 Magnum 12 ga, 28" fixed full choke, about 90% condition.

Churchill by Kassnar SxS, 32" 10 ga 3.5". About 70% condition.

Mossberg 500A Trophy 12 ga smoothbore slug gun, 3-9 Tasco, about 90% condition.

Browning BPS Field 12 ga 3", 3 chokes, 28" about 95% condition.

Mossberg 500C 20ga 26", fixed full about 90% condition.

Beretta 390 field, 28" with box and accessories, about 97%.

Beretta BL-3 12ga 30" barrels with 3" chambers, fixed full and mod, about 60% due to spot rusting. No pits, but spotted pretty heavily. Would re-blue nicely.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sorry to hear of your friend's passing. It's good of you to try and help out his family.

If you have a licensed dealer or two in your area that you trust, they'd be a good source for valuing the shotguns. Or you could refer to any of several sources- the Blue Book, for example, or some of the online sales sites like Gunbroker for baseline information. I am not familiar enough with the models you list to offer suggestions regarding value, I'm afraid.

Here’s what the Blue book says.

Remington 870 Magnum 12 ga, 28" fixed full choke, about 90% condition. $160

Churchill by Kassnar SxS, 32" 10 ga 3.5". About 70% condition. $250

Mossberg 500A Trophy 12 ga smoothbore slug gun, 3-9 Tasco, about 90% condition. Not sure on this one

Browning BPS Field 12 ga 3", 3 chokes, 28" about 95% condition. $250

Mossberg 500C 20ga 26", fixed full about 90% condition. $190

Beretta 390 field, 28" with box and accessories, about 97%. $415-525 ? Price for Silver Mallard Field.

Good luck with your sale
Mike

Thanks tech, you've been a real help on this. I appreciate it.

HSMITH - FWIW, at least for the northern part of the state, the used guns at retail outlets are a little different than the previous post.

The 870 (assuming a Wingmaster) would be at least $30, and probably more like $50 higher.

The 20ga Mossberg 500 would be about $30 higher.

I haven't seen a used BPS of any sort for under about $325 in a while.

I would guess that BL-3 in that condition would go no more than $500. that might be a bit high, but it would make a nice shooter if bought for that and no thought to it being a "collectible"

Thanks for the info guys. I've looked at a few gunshops lately and that has also helped to put values on the guns. My condition ratings are very conservative also, no way would anyone be dissappointed with the condition ratings unless they just had no clue what they were looking at.

Trapper, I have put the BPS up for $325 which I think in this area is a very good price, and the 870 is a Wingmaster. I've got $300 on it for now, I can always lower it later if I need to and it is a very nice gun. It doesn't have many miles on it at all and the older Wingmasters are getting hard to find in decent shape. Are you looking for any of these? PM if so, a package deal on several could be worked out too.

huntsman, you read my mind on the BL-3. It would make a fantastic field gun if it was cleaned up and cold blued on the spots. Would be seriously ugly but I don't know what gun you could pick for a better field gun. I've considered the BL-3 too light for a serious target gun since I bought my first one almost 15 years ago, it just beat me up shooting targets. It was a fantastic pheasant gun, but I sent it down the road before I got it all scratched up and degraded the value. This particular one is right at 7 pounds (guesstimated) or a hair under, and moves like it is alive. Beretta has certainly built some fine guns over the years.......

Man, I hope some of these sell soon, temptation is strong and I am weak not to mention hopelessly out of safe space and gun money......

Older 870 WMs with fixed choke and plenty of scars and mileage are $325 here recently. I sold a similar BPS this year for $350.
The 390 sounds about right. Anybody that wants a good auto and won't pop $425 for that doesn't deserve it.
The mossbergs are about right at $190(or $175?) for the used 20g and maybe $250 for the slug gun with the tasco scope (I'm in a state with a shotgun slug deer season).
Hope this helps

Thanks Kingcreek. I sold the 390 for $475 already :) .

I am a tad lower on the Mossbergs than most of you guys though. I listed the slug gun at $225 and the 20 guage at $160, fair prices in my opinion for both the selling family and the buyer.

HSMITH - Thanks for the offer. While I would be interested, a lack of funds and space preclude any more purchases for a while.

OK Trapper, as I mentioned above I too am out of space and gun money not to mention already owning shotguns I haven't shot in several years. I understand, and I feel your pain!! :) :)

HSMITH - It's actually not a bad situation to be in. :D Kinda like running your own business and complaining about being too busy.

LOL, you have a point. I think I'd gripe about being hung with a new rope though  :)
