Hello, I have a Mowrey .45 BP rifle that is missing the mainspring, I found the company that bought Mowrey-Deer Creek Rifleworks in Indiana but the phone rings busy all the time, Dixie Gunworks do not carry it either.
does anyone know where I can find a replacement? or maybe post a picture so I can try and make one, any help is appreciated, thank you.

I think that MSM, which was the forerunner of Cains Outdoors had a hand in this rifle at one time, might be worth getting in touch with them, they are nice folks and share their knowledge freely. I take it you have no spring at all to try to copy, if you had something to go by it would be an easy job to copy.

It's correct that I don't have the old one, the guy I got the rifle from said it broke on him and he still had it, just hasn't been able to find it, I think he lost it, thanks for the info I'll get in touch with them.

Sorry for the poor scan but this is what the spring looks like. It appears to be a flat spring bent in a U with the edges rounded. It looks like it just lays in the bottom and is milled down and bent up where it goes through the back of the tumbler. Looks like some spring stock and a little trial and error can get it done, in the world of locks this one looks pretty easy to figure out. I'm still lusting for a Mowery in .54 with gain twist but they were unavailable before I even knew about them.

I bought 2 from DeerCreek a few years ago for my Mowrey rifle ....be sure and get the new O shaped part ...if yours is worn real bad the O will be shaped more like a U ...it will need to be replaced also to put tension on the main spring .
Deer Creek is hard to get ahold of during the hard part of the winter ...they get iced in a lot , lines down and such .......they will have the parts ya need though ...good folks , Mom & POP operation .

Thank you all, that helps me out a lot, my friend did say it was shaped like a horseshoe so now I see what he meant.
edit to add; did not think about the ice & snow and all that, I'm in AZ and the days have been in the 70's.
