I've got an Olney, Texas Mowrey .45 that I got as collateral, guy says sorry, so I've got to sell, I tried looking for any other Mowreys that have been bought or sold and can't find anything close.
This is the heavy octagon barrel with the brass frame and handguard, it looks exactly like the one shown on page 144 of the Black Powder Gun Digest Book.
I'm going to try and post a picture.
Any help is appreciated as I don't want to overprice it nor cut myself short, Thank You All.

The condition of the bore of a muzzle loader is an important detail to know about in order to determine its value.

There were 2 Texas made Mowrey's in nice condition that were recently sold on Gunbroker that the auction listings are still available for.

One was a .50 with a steel replacement receiver plus the original brass receiver with spare parts, and a clean barrel with shallow rifling that sold for $300.

The other was a .54 with a brass receiver, buttplate and forearm that wasn't fired much that sold for $290.

Thank you, I saw the first one on my search but not the second one, mine looks just like the second one, bore looks clean with no frosting or anything obvious, grooves are shallow which I know was normal, I'm having problems with my picture download so it may be a day or two.

I recently bought a .54 steel frame. When checking prices I found there are not a lot of them on the market. The ones I did find ran around the $300 area for one in good condition.

MCB? I'd imagine that puppy rolls up nicely, using the shoulder as a pivot point when it gets lit off? Looks like it's kinda fun to shoot.

The NASTIEST gun I ever fired was a Savage with a straight stock in .300 WinMag. I'm not afraid of recoil... but, that design was the worst thing I'd ever tugged a trigger on. All the energy just went straight back... no redirection at all on it.

OCH! Both my shoulder hurt just from the thought of that. I'm becoming more recoil sensitive in my old age. I was shooting my .303 Enfield jungle carbine a few weeks ago, hurt like hell for a few days.

Yeah... that rifle didn't last long in my collection. It wasn't even purdy. I found out rather quickly why I got such a good deal on it. I did good on the trade in though... and got my money back out of it. Life's too short to shoot a nasty gun. :D

I have seen Mowrey's with asking prices higher than $300 if it had exceptional wood, extra fine condition or some other feature about it.
But an asking price of $400 - $500 will cause many folks to shy away from buying it, even though it's not too unrealistic for one to sell for $350 - $400.
