I got a MR Baby Eagle .45 a few months ago and it's more accurate than I am :uhoh: But a few weeks ago, I tried firing some Flat point reloads a friend made up for me, they ended up making the slide lock closed and it wouldn't fire. We tried his reloads in his .45 and they shot fine all day, so it wasn't the ammo. Called Magnum Research they said the guns just don't like the FP's. To make a long story short, is there anything I can do to fix the the problem or should I just stay away from FP's?

TIA

I am not sure entirely about the baby eagle, but the desert eagle is very particular about the ammo it feeds. I know three people that own and regulary shoot them, and they only use fully jacketed ammo.

ANSWER

Use different ammo.

(The "bad" load had its bullet diameter at the case mouth large enough to catch at the throat of the barrel. I don't recommend FP bullets in much anything for anywhy, because they can be problematic while offering few discernable benefits.
Those rounds your friend made up would PROBABLY work if shorter. But then you gotta change the charge weight due to diminshed capacity and maybe adjust crimp due to reduced bullet diameter present at the case mouth and oh you see it ain't ever that easy and it most certainly often is "the ammo".)

Find what works: use that.
