I recently bought some Meprolight Night Sights for my GP100 Stainless because the factory sights are just awful.

Trying to install them has been a pain - the front sight is too big and needs to be filed down or exchanged for a smaller one - both of which are things that I don't wanna deal with.

The rear sight will work fine, but I have no idea how to get that rear roll pin out nor do I have the means of doing so.

I don't want to have to pay a gunsmith to do this, out of principle more than anything, so I was hoping someone here could tell me how to get that pin out and how to file down that front sight ramp so I can get these things in there.

Thanks in Advance

But I will have the tools forever and will be able to use them on future installs for new guns.

What tools would I need and where would I get them?

I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy

yes, I am very much aware of Brownells, but what parts/tools do I need to accomplish this? The rear sight is held in by a small roll pin and the front sight needs some filing to be able to fit.

What are the tools called and how do I use them?

jewelers files or gunsmith files , the more shapes the better , a small vise with padded jaws or a good peice of leather to pad parts in , a good set of gunsmith punches (flat ones will suffice for most Ruger projects) small gunsmithing hammer .

Lyman makes a good set of brass punches with hammer ! I went the long way on files & bought em as needed !

Don`t worry `bout any stones rite now !

Describe how the front sight is too big. Dovetail too wide? If so, file the bottom on a large file. Keep it flat. Do a few strokes, turn it, do a few more. Test fit often. Touch up with cold blue.

It's too long to fit in the slot for the front sight. it needs to be shorter. width is good though.

I never thought installing sights would be such a pain! Part of this is meprolight's fault for not making the sights the right size
