I've been looking over a 'newer' model Iver Johnson M1 Carbine that I'm thinking of buying.

The first thing I couldn't help but notice, is that the rear sight was 'very' loose, in its dove-tail mount. It has a sliding ramp type sight - I'm sure it isn't original .... due to the way it was installed.
Whoever installed it, had shimmed under it, then tried to stake it in a few spots, because it fit so loosely.
Could someone tell me what the preferred method is, for doing a nice snug 'Correct' installation on this sight?
I have no idea why it would be this loose .... as nothing appears to have been 'trimmed'.

Since I know virtually nothing about M1's .... 'specifically', I'm trying to gather as much info as I can get. Could anyone give me a rough idea, what this might be worth?
Would there be any 'M1-dedicated' websites .... or some other online source for good general information?

Thanks

Your rear sight is no problem to repair. What I would recommend is that you buy Jerry Kunhausen's book on the M1 carbine. It is the best book on the subject, and well worth the money. I may be a bit off on the spelling of his last name. :)
