my older speedmaster won't load the next round without the bolt jamming into the side of the shell casing. instead of the round coming up level into the breech the round angles up and the bolt hits it on the side. the slot where the shell passes through is clearly worn and it seems to me that this is why it doesn't enter the chamber flat. ? is, antone know where to get a replacement barrel for this firearm? or have i got my moneys worth and time to look for a new 22 autoloader, btw, the rifle is a very straight shooter and i have had it for some time, would really like to keep it. thanks happy shooting

I haven't had a 552 in several years, but it sounds like you may have a weak spring in the magazine, or the magazine tube may be worn causing misfeeds. I've got a PDF of the 552 service manual that I can send, but I don't know if it will be helpful. If you can find another 552 to compare it to, you might be able to spot the problem.
Good luck,
RT

Rimfirecentral would be worth checking out. Someone there will probably know the correct answer.

yup, cleaned it real well and have replaced the magazine spring, visual problem is looking into breach where round rises up, the milling is worn from so many rounds or ? will try to post pics shortly

Will it cycle manually? Does the bolt go far enough back so back of the next will catch?

There is a lifter arm on the trigger assembly that picks the next round up but if the bolt doesn't go back far enough for it to clear it will do as you describe.

Did you get yours solved?

I'm having a similar issue and can't figure out what's going on with mine. My LGS and I tore down two used ones he had in his rack to see what was different compared to mine and didn't find anything.

BTW the ones I've been into lately ranged from the 50's to the 70's in manufacture and they all had very rough machine work on the barrel at the breach. It looks like that section is going to look rough in all of em. At least the vintage ones.
